About
Mirsat is a Brussels-based cultural ASBL creating space for SWANA artistic practices to be developed, presented, and shared across Europe.
Through festivals, performances, workshops, conversations, and collaborative programs, Mirsat supports artists and cultural workers whose practices engage with the social, political, and cultural realities of the region and its diasporas.
We aim to build bridges between European cultural spaces and SWANA artistic voices without reducing the region to a single story. For us, art is a way to create exchange, challenge stereotypes, and reclaim narrative agency.
Mirsat works through several cultural formats — each rooted in the same mission, in conversation with each other.

Co-founder
Based in Brussels, Karen is a graphic designer and a cultural worker. After completing a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design with a Minor in Theatre at the American University of Beirut, Karen moved to Belgium to complete a Master's in Media and Information Design at LUCA School of Arts. It is during that time that she started exploring the Brussels theater scene, for which she continues to work and volunteer as a teacher, director, and producer.
Co-founder
Based in Beirut, Makram started getting involved in the local theater in 2010, acting in major and student productions. He then worked as a Technical Director in theaters in Beirut such as Al Madina Theatre and Sunflower Theatre. He then expanded into the TV and Cinema industry as a sound engineer, editor, director, and producer. For the past four years, Makram has been working as a video journalist for alternative news platforms, notably Megaphone News and Daraj Media. He studied Communication Arts in Advertising and Radio TV.
Team member
Based in Brussels, Alexia is a social-cultural worker active in a community center. She completed a Bachelor's and a Master's degree in Sociology at the University of Ghent. Over the past four years, Alexia has been an active member of the theatre collective Jong Gewei, where she has participated in several productions and worked on two solo performances of her own. Through her work in both community engagement and performance, she continues to explore the intersection of social practice and theatre.
Team member
Originally from Beirut, Jeremy is a Brussels-based researcher and writer. He is currently returning to writing with a renewed focus on his core research interests. He completed a Master of Science in Sociology at the University of Ghent in 2023, during which he developed an interest in Arab diaspora studies. He currently focuses on national identity formation, network-building, and digital subcultures. Since moving to Belgium, Jeremy has also been involved in the local cultural scene; he has regularly contributed to the Ghent-based publication Different Class, interviewing various artists and cultural workers, and has previously worked as a freelancer in communications and copywriting.
Team member
Based in Ghent, Jace Jasper is the US Program Officer at the Fulbright Commission in Brussels, administering the Fulbright Program for American grantees on the Fulbright Belgium, Luxembourg and Schuman Programs. Originally American and raised in Colorado, Jace graduated from Yale University in 2016 with a degree in French and Spanish, then completed a master's in Human Rights and Humanitarian Action at Sciences Po Paris in 2018. Since then, they have worked in European higher education in various capacities, including with the European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ENQA) in Brussels. In their free time, they are a passionate advocate for human rights and LGBTQ+ rights, and are actively involved in the theater community, sitting on the board of the American Theatre Company in Brussels.
